Louisiana Youth Challenge Program
The Louisiana National Guard offers at risk students an opportunity to change their future. The initial program consists of a five month residential program while working to obtain their GED. Participants live in a structured military like environment, Eligibility requirements are applicants must be age 16-19, must havre a strong desire to partake in the program, be a resident of Louisiana, and be drug free with no felony convictions. LaCHIP Affordable Plan
The LaCHIP Affordable Plan is a LaCHIP health insurance program for uninsured children in moderate income families whose income is too much to qualify for regular LaCHIP.

If your household income is too high to qualify for LaCHIP, then your child will be considered for LaCHIP Affordable Plan. The only way to know if your child qualifies for Medicaid is to apply. Parents can apply online by visiting the Louisiana Medicaid Online Application Center.

Need to Renew?
Parents whose children already receive health care coverage through LaCHIP Affordable Plan can renew coverage through the online application, hotline or mailed application. Renewal is required every year and is not automatic.
Can I Talk to Someone about LaCHIP Affordable Plan?
Parents can also call the hotline 1-877-2LaCHIP (252-2447) to ask questions or request to have an application mailed on the next business day. Staff are available to assist with LaCHIP applications from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Friday. Please click here to see a directory listing of LaCHIP staff.
What Does LaCHIP Affordable Plan Cover?
All services available through LaCHIP are also available to the LaCHIP Affordable Plan's recipients. Before a child receives a service, parents should ask the doctor or provider about limits to receiving the service or if the service needs to be “prior authorized,” which means Medicaid has to agree to pay for the service before it can be offered to a patient. Just because a service is not on the list does not mean that Medicaid will not cover it. Call the contact listed for the service group in question if a service is refused.
Do you know a child in need of a medical grant?
United Healthcare Children’s Foundation (UHCCF) is seeking grant applications from families in need of financial assistance to help pay for their child’s health care treatments, services or equipment not covered, or not fully covered, by their commercial health insurance plan. Grants are available for medical expenses families have incurred 60 days prior to the date of application as well as for ongoing and future medical needs.
To see if the child qualifies, answer the following questions:
.Is the child sixteen or younger, living in the United States, and facing a health-related
challenge?
Is the child currently covered by a commercial health insurance bene"t plan?
(*See special note below on Medicaid and
similar exclusions.)
Does the commercial benefit plan cover only a portion or none of their necessary treatment, services or equipment?
Does the parent(s) or legal guardian(s) currently meet the following Adjusted
Gross Income levels (as reported on last
year’s IRS 1040)?
Family Size Adjusted Gross Income
2 $50,000 or less
3 $75,000 or less
4 $100,000 or less
5 or more $125,000 or less
Parents or legal guardians may apply for grants at www.uhccf.org, and there is no application date.
Qualifying families can receive up to $5,000 annually ($10,000 lifetime max) to help pay for medical services and equipment such as physical, occupational and speech therapies, counseling services, surgeries, prescription medications, wheelchairs, orthotics, eyeglasses
